NOTICE REGARDING YOUR MEDICAL CODING MANUALS
As part of this program’s tuition, Penn Foster provides the following coding manuals:
• ICD-10-CM • ICD-10-PCS • CPT
These manuals are intended to teach you how to correctly find the required codes needed throughout this course. Because the coding manuals are updated annually, there’s no guarantee that these will be the materials necessary to complete any certification exam. You’ll need to verify what manuals are required prior to registering for the exam.
The HCPCS Level II coding manual is not provided to you as part of this program and is not included with your tuition. However, you’ll be provided with a HCPCS Level II spreadsheet containing all of the HCPCS codes you’ll need to successfully complete your program.
Publishers release the new ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding manuals annually in October. However, due to the time required for Penn Foster to revise course materials, there’s a delay from when the newest ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets are available and when they’re integrated into the Penn Foster curriculum. You’ll be expected to complete all three coding courses with the original materials provided. Depending on when you begin the first of the three Medical Coding courses (HIT203, HIT204, and HIT205), you may receive the previous year’s manuals after the next version has already been published.
If you don’t register for and complete a certification exam, either AAPC or AHIMA, within the same year as the manuals you receive from Penn Foster, you may be required to purchase new versions of the coding manuals. It’s your responsibility to verify the date of the manuals needed for the certification exam. You must also verify what HCPCS Level II manual is required by the AAPC or AHIMA and purchase it prior to taking the certification exam."
